It's a bird, It's a plane, It's a CAR????

This past weekend was The Houston Art Car Parade sponsored by The Orange Show. This is a free parade that every year turns into a bigger and bigger festival.
The idea of the art car parade is if it has wheels and is decorated... you can enter it in the parade.

   Check out this car....

Peep Car
What did they use? Look closer...

Yes that's right it is Marshmallow Peeps.

This is one of my favorite drinks songs....

Margaritaville

What could be better on a hot Houston day....

I'm not sure what this is but is I look in the mirror and see it... I'm letting it by.

Art Car Parade

If you would like to check out some of the other participants check out the photos on Chanel 13 the Houston ABC affiliate. Be prepared to take a while there are 167 photos but there are some great cars. Check them out here

The first car was made by students. Great job don't you think?

I love the peep car!!! We used to go to this when I was little, but haven't in a while. I totally forgot it was this weekend. Oh well, thanks for the photo recap and maybe I will remember next year ;)

TGN, This is not the normal weekend they changed it this year. I couldn't get into Houston for it either.
Alex, On the back of the car they had chairy from Pee Wee's Playhouse, with a guy dressed as Pee Wee Herman. I think it was aimed at the youngsters.
CCG, Glad to see you around. Some of these people work all year on their creations, some even longer.
There was even a car that was totally covered with a crocheted cozey. As a crocheter I can tell you that took awhile to do.

What I want to know is what they do with the cars after the parade. Do they keep them like that? Store them until next year? Repaint them for every day use? Drive them around daily like that? I couldn't begin to imagine, but what a fun parade idea!

Sara, There are a number of Art Car Parades around the country, I think quite a lot of them travel. I have seen the roach car on the streets of Houston, but I can't imagine the peep car surviving the heat or bugs.
